The 11-meter One Design was developed in 1990 by Ron Holland and Rolf Gyhlenius for inshore racing. The 11-meter project began with 2 boats in a very extensive test program during the fall of 1990 in Sarasota, Florida. The test crew was running two identical yachts against each other, side by side for months. The result can be seen in a perfect keel, rudder and sail plan configurations. The 11 meter is a yacht with very strict One-Design Rules in building. These strict guidelines make each boat equal no matter where it is built. The first boats from Florida were delivered to Stockholm for the International Boat Show in March of 1991. Despite the bad economy in Sweden at that time 37 yachts were sold to private owners during the show. In less than two years more than 120 yachts were sold worldwide to enthusiastic sailors.
Often it were people with world-class sailing experience, who were attracted to the 11 MOD. In 1991 One-Design Yacht was awarded the prestigious Silk Cut Nautical Award for best production yacht.
